Camelina sativa is also known as gold-of-pleasure, false flax, or more commonly camelina. The seed originally hails from Northern Europe and Central Asia and more recently has been introduced to North American growers. A high concentration of Omega-3 fatty acids levels compared to Omega-6 fatty acids can be found in the camelina seed. With its high Omega-3 level, camelina seed is an excellent source of both oil and protein meal, especially when compared to other vegetable oil sources.
Camelina oil is very high in vitamin E content. Because of the oil's high content of natural antioxidants the oil is more stable and more resistant to oxidation and rancidity when compared to other oils such as flax.
